T his summer sees the welcome return of the moccasin. Finally, after many years of loafers being the perfect men’s shoe for summer, moccasins have made a huge comeback on the men’s fashion scene. Whether you are in the desert, walking on a promenade in the French Riviera or just driving your car, moccasins are the best way to have ultimate foot comfort. Launched onto the fashion scene by Italian style icon Gianni Agnelli, moccasins soon became a symbol of Italian men’s elegance that was quickly adopted by American movie stars and magnates as the perfect summer shoe. Coloured or classic, moccasins suit everyone and are they easy and practical to wear. At work or during an important event, moccasins fit every occasion without compromising men’s style. From Fratelli Rossetti and Gianvito Rossi to Moreschi, Ermenegildo Zegna Couture and Santoni, moccasins are men’s statement accessory this summer. Opt for a pair that has been entirely handmade by artisans—they will lend style and innate taste and, of course, quality, which makes you feel as comfortable as walking barefoot. The moccasin trend was born in Italy, so we have included home grown Italian examples that are famous worldwide for their craftsmanship and style. Fratelli Rossetti is an internationally famous brand thanks to the creation and launch in 1968 of the moccasin with “nappine” (tassels). They called it Brera after the famous Milan quarter known for its artists and art galleries. This season, after 50 years, they present a new version with a brown perforated pattern entirely handstitched with a matching leather sole and upper colours. More dapper and dandy are the moccasins by Gianvito Rossi, which reinterprets its iconic Marcello moccasin, inspired by Marcello Mastroianni, as an elegant casual shoe. It is designed with blake stitching from soft suede with a handmade stitched leather sole and rubber insert. Still in the casual chic mood, Moreschi redesigns its moccasin using white, light cotton fabric instead of the usual leather, lending the shoe silhouette a more laid-back style. Santoni’s and Ermenegildo Zegna Couture’s spring moccasins are more formal. Santoni reshapes this iconic shoe with its famous double buckle embellished with fringes. The shoe is made of tumbled leather in shades of red and has a leather sole. Ermenegildo Zegna Couture, famous for its suits, sees the moccasin as an extension and complement to its suits. Made of lamb skin, L’Asola mocassin feature reverse construction on flexible leather with the signature buttonhole detail and handstitched front band. Both are perfect for the most important or formal occasions. 2 2 5 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I RETURN OF THE MOCCASIN Gianvito Rossi Fratelli Rossetti Ermenegildo Zegna Santoni Moreschi
