L ocation is of the utmost importance, that is a given. But getting the interior right, in any home, is absolutely vital. The design concept of any abode has a direct impact on its residents. The space you occupy affects your feelings and emotions in a palpable way… if the interior is off, so will you be. Therefore, entrusting the interior design of the world’s most expensive and luxurious apartments, penthouses, villas and townhouses is a crucial decision for the owner. The final result will speak volumes about who they are and how they live. This is where interior design star Charu Gandhi comes into her own. Gandhi started her career as an architect. She studied and subsequently taught at the Architectural Association before joining the London offices of Allies &Morrison Architects in 2006. During this time, Gandhi worked on several notable international projects, including a boutique hotel in Beirut, luxury spa villas in Kerala and the Doha National Library. Her portfolio of commissions also included the London Olympics Masterplan and a collection of exclusive residences in Qatar. The next big leap was accepting a prestigious position with the Candy &Candy group in 2011. Gandhi’s role was project managing the private commission team and running their illustrious portfolio of commissions, including the residences in the famous One Hyde Park development. Having an architect’s understanding of all aspects of construction, technical design and space, Gandhi was always drawn to the creation of interiors and since 2014 she has channelled her talent and energy into this arena. Gandhi established Elicyon in 2014 and has successfully grown the company year on year. As founder and director of the London-based design studio, she now heads a team of 15 that regularly accept top- flight projects all over the world. In late 2016, the Dubai-based developer Omniyat contracted Elicyon to design their show apartment and base build interiors at its luxury One Palm development on The Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. This staggering development, which totals 910,000-square feet, will be a bold architectural statement in a city which is already renowned for its diverse and ground-breaking architecture.
