Simply Abu Dhabi XXXI
vALENTINO P ierpaolo Piccioli, valentino’s creative director, presented a Fall 2018 haute couture collection that stunned with its colours and diversity. Overlapping memories and references that combined cultures with valentino’s heritage dresses, mega proportions mixed with house craftsmanship and a palette of colour were the true protagonists of the show. Mythological patterns of Greek vases adorning coats, vests or dresses are juxtaposed with soft and delicate fabrics used for bon-ton day dresses. Floral prints contrast with flashy colours and mega wigs that recall Jacqueline Kennedy. In fact, Jacky O is the woman who changed valentino’s career forever when, in 1964, she bought many of his haute couture pieces and launched Mr. Garavani onto the American market by wearing his pieces exclusively for many years, including her second wedding to Aristotle Onassis in 1968. In the collection, Pierpaolo expressed his love of beauty wisely, offering many interesting options for daywear: a jacket, pants and blouse, short dresses with tight or wide skirts and suits were featured. For evening wear, astonishing one-of-a-kind pieces with ruffles and hand embroidered or simply expressing the incredible craftsmanship of the house of valentino, especially for the finale dresses that stunned the audience with their beauty. Silhouettes are long and sleek with swaggering proportions. The colour palette is wide, ranging from black to orange, azzurro (light blue), gold, green, flashy green, red and burgundy.
