Simply Abu Dhabi XXXI
ETRO d andy detour is the title of Etro’s 50th anniversary men’s collection: a deep introspection of the brand’s man and vision. A cultured and fervent traveller with a strong connection to his roots, the Etro man is always exploring a new way of being and style without forgetting where he comes from. The collection is a homage to the brand’s strong identity. Its men are wild, but intellectual; soft- spoken but bold; eclectic but smart; cosmopolitan but rooted and connected to their past. From midnight blues, to royal purples, fuchsia, amethyst, green, lime, turquoise, shades of cream, pale brown alongside yellow, burnt orange and rose are part of the immense colour palette used for the collection that impresses with its hues and tones. The silhouette is renewed and energised, trousers are cut wide but sit high on the waist and blazers and jackets have rounded shoulders creating a gentle effect on the male body. A major theme for fall is material: extremely rich details that recall tapestry and exotic carpets, prints that depict Navajo weaving, Persian textiles and Celtic tapestries. Wool blazers and long coats are in jacquard while velvet and corduroy are coloured and printed. Gingham shirts are made from sustainable eucalyptus fibres and canvas is used on workwear- inspired coats that stay true to the Japanese aesthetic principle of Wabi- sabi. Nomadic yet dandy, the Etro man wears patchworks of textiles and patterns mixing them with tailored suits or blazers. It is, overall, a good collection, very desirable especially for the exotica-inspired coats and the intricate details of the fabrics that make the pieces adaptable for every occasion. The suits adorn the male body perfectly without being too serious and “old”. The final touch of marble and malachite that adorn the lapels of blazers and coats are coolly chic.
