World-Class destinations The American Club—which turned 100 years old in 2018—was originally built by Walter Kohler, the founder’s son, to provide affordable and comfortable housing for his workforce. Immigrant workers took classes toward gaining citizenship and brought their families to the United States once they earned enough money and could fulfil their dream of owning their own home. The transition from manufacturing dormitory to hospitality property was launched in 1981, with the idea to refurbish The American Club into a resort-hotel to showcase quality products in an organic environment and offer guests world-class service.
