A rriving in Montenegro for the first time triggers a sense of wonder and eager discovery. For the frequent visitor or the newcomer alike, the pleasures in this relatively small country, with a population of just 600,000, are plentiful. Waiting to be discovered are centuries of rich layered history, UNESCO protected villages, eye-opening architecture, medieval fortress towns and beautiful National Parks, which include Europe’s deepest canyon and the last virgin forest, alongside diverse and protected wildlife. Montenegro’s climate is Alpine in its highland north, where the landscape has deep gorges and glacial lakes, and inland the weather is continental.
