GUO PEI Theatrical yet whimsical, Guo Pei haute couture collection was an ode to the beauty and richness of her country, China. The set itself, built inside the Palais de Tokyo, and its four big red columns recalled the majestic Forbidden City in Beijing. The Chinese couturier brought her audience on a dream-like journey through Imperial China where her, intricate yet luxurious fabrics and embroideries accompanied the travellers. Bright colours and shades depicted Guo’s vision of a modern Empress of China who, slowly, walked the runway in elaborate high heels made of the same fabrics used for the dresses. The embroidery, a major theme for the designer, was entirely done by hand by her staff of 300 and depicted flower motifs—it was simply breathtaking just thinking about the amount of hours needed to craft each single piece. The silhouettes were strong and feminine with the grace that reminds us of ancient and glorious ages. For the accessories, headpieces that were like sculptures, entirely hand made with a cascade of decorative details that stunned with their intricate and elaborate magnificence.
