dUnHiLL The luxury codes of menswear have been challenged by Mark Weston, creative director of dunhill London, who designed a Spring/Summer Collection 2019 questioning certain common ideas about british clothing culture. He started with a rigorous exploration of classic cuts and silhouettes in order to create something new through the tension created by contrasting very different fabrics, materials and textures. For example, a noble fabric such as silk moiré has been refashioned to look like nylon used for sportswear. The dominant fabric in the collection is leather in different textures and colours, such as blue, olive and mustard yellow. Leather is used for bombers, but also shirts and trench coats, while mohair is used for masterfully tailored suits. Another garment that attracts attention in this collection is the trousers: split-hem trousers, both in an ultrathin shape or looser, are reminiscent of the eighties. Chic but irreverent, the dunhill man is bold and wears a jacket without a shirt. in one of these shirtless looks, a yellow bomber jacket is worn on a pale blue silk moiré suit jacket, eliminating the boundaries between formal dress and sportswear. A pair of looser cut trousers and new leather loafers complete the look. Through such contrasts, a creative inspiration has been born and the Englishness of the most elegant menswear has taken on new lifeblood in a collection that celebrates contemporary man and his multifunctional wardrobe.
