9 9 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I A perpetual calendar automatically adjusts short months and adds a day to February each leap year and if this watch were worn permanently, it would only require an adjustment in the year 2100, simply to manually change the date fromFebruary 29th to March 1st. The dark blue aventurine dial and sub-dials draw the eye and really make this timepiece something to behold. The result of a happy accident, aventurine glass was created in the 17th century in a Murano glass factory when copper filings were dropped into cooling molten glass, creating a constellation of sparkling particles. Audemars Piguet recreate this today by introducing black copper oxide and cobalt that give the blue colour to the glass. The pink gold case, hands and applied hour-markers add beautiful contrast to the deep blue sparkling constellation of the aventurine dial. A photographic image of the moon is reproduced on the moon indication at 6 o’clock through laser engraving on an aventurine disc that subtly matches the design of the dial. In addition, the perpetual calendar indicates the day number and week day at 3 and 9 o’clock respectively, the month at 12 o’clock, the week numbers on the lacquered blue inner bezel, as well as the hours and minutes. The charismatic CEO, François Henry Bennahmias, sums up the Code collection saying, “Classic by nature and unconventional by design, Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet chooses it all. This collection demanded new tools, skills and techniques to reach an exceptional degree of technical and aesthetic complexity. Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet is about human challenges. It tells the passionate stories of the dedicated watchmakers who dared to follow their convictions, joined forces and persevered, always pushing their own limits.”
