1 0 8 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I O ne of our exclusive interviewees in this special Hollywood Edition of Simply Abu Dhabi is the legendary Sylvester Stallone – a man who has been a great admirer and ambassador for the iconic Italian brand. After discovering a Panerai Luminor watch on sale while in Italy filming the 1996 movie Daylight, Stallone became utterly enamoured with the watch and the brand – a love affair which continues to flourish to this day. Rumours abounded that the veteran star bought Panerai watches for members of the film crew and for lots of friends and family. He gifted one to his fellow action hero heavyweight Arnold Schwarzenegger, meaning Panerai watches hit the widescreen in more films, such as Arnie’s Eraser. As well as giving Panerai watches as presents, he embellished his own Panerai pieces, commissioning a run of Panerai Luminor Submersible pieces with “Slytech” inscribed on the dial and his signature engraved on the caseback. He also had the word “Daylight”, to commemorate the film and his discovery of the brand, featured on top half of the Luminor dial, accompanied by “Slytech” on the bottom. In the mid-2000s, Panerai released Luminor Daylight models in honour of the first Slytech Daylight watch by Stallone, the Panerai Luminor Daylight Chrono PAM 251 and the Panerai Luminor Daylight Chrono PAM 236.
