1 5 7 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I Dolce & Gabbana Women’s Autumn/Winter 2019 I t’s an Eleganza extravaganza this autumn/winter season, with Dolce & Gabbana’s remarkable new collection for women. Dedicated to traditional craftsmanship, Renaissance artists and even desserts, the collection is an ode to Italy’s astounding artistic heritage. It’s D&G at its very purest, exemplifying the exquisite tailoring and strong silhouettes that define the Made-In-Italy aesthetic. The wide-ranging women’s collection traces an arc through menswear-inspired suiting to ultra-feminine frocks, wedding dresses and loungewear. At one end of the spectrum are exquisitely tailored, monochromatic suits topped with wide-brimmed hats and classic overcoats, double-breasted tuxedo-inspired jackets with wide-leg trousers, and cropped trousers paired with striped shorts and a loosely knotted necktie scarf. At the other, delightful confections of tiered evening dresses trimmed in fur in pistachio and crème brulee, caped gowns worked through with lace, and marabou-embellished chiffon capes and trousers in delicate pastels. As for everything in between – well, there’s plenty of tweed suiting, tartan check prints, intricate brocade, floaty chiffon and sleek satin – and of course, this being Dolce & Gabbana, there’s lots and lots of leopard. The on-trend print appears on structured jackets and wide-cut trousers, as trim on black overcoats, as an elegant slip dress for evenings, and is a recurring motif across the accessories. One of D&G’s best-loved motifs, floral prints, is on glorious display across a stunning assortment of tea-length dresses, while a floral embroidery adorns a bell skirt topped with a floral cropped jacket. The effect can be demure if you opt for a frock worn on its own, or if you’re a more daring fashionista, mix colours, patterns, and textures for an edgier look. Artsy prints round out the eveningwear vibe, which moves the collection into a bolder colour palette and more avant-garde silhouettes. Eleganza is an absolutely joyous collection that simultaneously evokes the past and the future of the very best of Italian fashion, as Dolce & Gabbana pay homage to their heritage whilst looking always ahead, setting the trends for generations to come.
