Simply Abu Dhabi XXXV
9 1 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I Q: Does agemake it more difficult to play a part like this? AS: Of course, age plays a part. We are all not the youngest anymore. And you can feel your body after a long day on the set. But Linda is incredible. She is 62 now, and she insisted on doing all the physical stuff. There was a water scene shooting down on her in a truck. I was not filming that day; I was just visiting. I wanted to see how she did it. She never complained. But it’s difficult work. She just takes it and takes the beating. She is the toughest woman ever. Q: What makes this Terminator different than the others? AS: It’s just better. That’s it. It really is. I think this movie has the ultimate combination of emotions, actions and visual effects. It’s very intense. I personally like that this movie is not trying to appeal to a younger audience like the last one did. Q: And this one is definitely not for kids? AS: No. Nothing is toned down in this. And honestly – how do you turn it down when characters come from the future and the past and try to eliminate humankind? There’s some really crazy stuff. It’s back to what the first Terminator looked like – it’s just plain madness! Q: Does this movie have a political message? AS: You might see some messages, I suppose. I didn’t see one, but other viewers might. I just saw things the way they are. Q: There is a big nostalgia these days for characters of the 80s and 90s. Do you share that, and do youmiss the 80s and 90s? AS: Sure. I still like the purity. But that’s normal. I miss Austria sometimes, but I am happy I live in America. We miss things, but time moves on. I feel honoured and happy that I was part of it. When you think of the action genre in the 80s and 90s, people refer to the Schwarzenegger movies or the Eastwood or Van Damme movies. We were part of that. We defined what the action movies in the 80s and 90s were supposed to look like. It was very clear to identify. Q: Did you train for this movie? AS: You always train and prepare yourself as much as possible for the movie. What’s important to me was, the more we can be vulnerable the better it is for the character. The other Terminator that comes back from the future, the Rev 9, has to be so good and so fast and so efficient – wherever I can help to achieve that goal, I will do that. The guy who played him was a total gentleman, very well raised. I invited him to come to the gym with me. I tried to help him to be at his best. Q: Are we going to see you as Conan again? AS: Hopefully. It’s still on my to-do list. And I want to do another “Twins” movie as well.
