T he “Patchwork of Sicily” collection for Spring/Summer 2021 is at once a celebration of the Italian island of Sicily, where Domenico Dolce hails from, and tribute to the resourcefulness of the island in repurposing clothing – a motif that resonates in 2021 as more and more top design brands increase their trend towards sustainability. The charming patchwork pattern adorns long jacquard skirts, chiffon and poplin maxi-dresses, jackets, mini- skirts, trousers, and tops. The colours and patterns of Sicily are evoked; as that island’s rich history has included influences from the Romans, Arabs, Spanish, and Normans, the patchwork elements incorporate nods to these cultures. The variety of combinations make each piece unique, and separates – such as a crisp white tee – offset the intricacy of the patterns created on the skirts, leading to infinite possibilities.
