for enhancing the competitiveness of the business sector in the UAE; the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, which pioneered initiatives for health and welfare; and the Khalifa Award for Education to promote education, encourage outstanding educators and enhance innovative education practices. These were just a few of the initiatives Sheikh Khalifa delivered that would lead to increased success, prosperity and well- being in the Emirates. But he also raised the UAE’s profile as a leading cultural and academic centre of excellence by helping establish the Louvre Abu Dhabi, New York University Abu Dhabi and Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. He helped elevate the nation’s status as a desirable destination for business and holiday tourism, establishing Etihad Airways and having the world’s tallest man-made structure, the Burj Khalifa, named in his honour. His memory and his legacy will live on. Looking towards the future whilst honouring the past On September 9th, 2022, an emotional King Charles III spoke to the world about his mother – and his Queen. “Queen Elizabeth’s was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing,” he said. “That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.” And in the Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa’s successor is his half-brother H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who said, “Sheikh Khalifa was a dedicated leader who served and loved his people, a love they reciprocated, and we ask Allah Almighty to grant us solace and patience.” We fervently believe that the future holds a continuation of that special bond between the UK and the UAE, their leaders and their people. We wish all blessings and peace for our two new leaders. In the words of António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, “Let us honour the memory of Sheikh Khalifa. And let us build a world of peace, prosperity, and dignity for all, that he always tried to help build.”
