As happy as we are to return to doing what we love – bringing you the best of Abu Dhabi and beyond – we are also very mindful of how very different the world is today than when we last went to print. Even as we began to emerge from the darkest days of the pandemic that kept us all apart for so long, the world lost two of its most accomplished and revered leaders: Queen Elizabeth II of United Kingdom and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the second president of the United Arab Emirates. The UK and the UAE have long had a special relationship. And in 2022, we were united again in mourning these towering losses. The rulers of our two nations had in common the qualities of leadership that made them so beloved: a devotion to their duties, their people, their families and their faiths. Both were instrumental in guiding their countries into the future, with an emphasis on values, education, culture and prosperity. We wanted to pay our humble respects in our own Simply Abu Dhabi way. So, we created this special Royal Tribute edition as a salute to the lives and legacies of Queen Elizabeth and Sheikh Khalifa.
