It’s like a 4D experience with TomCruise! It seems like the world of cinema is something you are truly passionate about. TOM CRUISE: Absolutely. Since I was a kid, I wanted to travel the world and what I do is, I push the studios to send me to different countries – not just to promote and watch my films in different countries, but I watch their films too. So what I do, even when we’re travelling, is work with other production companies to educate them on how I make movies so that they can in turn go on and, if they so wish, use the knowledge that I have. Because I’ve been so fortunate: I’ve been making movies since I was 18 and the filmmakers that I’ve worked with, they had knowledge from the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s. And I have seen film develop and change. But it always comes down to one thing – it’s the story. And it’s that experience for the audience. And I try to use all my knowledge from one film to the next and share that. Here in Rome for the premier, there are some of the props from the film. Seems like you have a strong connection here. TOM CRUISE: Yes! For example, we have the car here that we drove with Hayley Atwell. We were doing doughnuts and the tyres were smoking. It’s really amazing to be here. It took a lot to be able to film here during that time period. Amazing what the country did, what Rome did, what Venice did. And to be able to be finally here at this moment where we’re sharing it with everyone – it’s quite a privilege. Tell us more about why you loved shooting in Rome? TOMCRUISE: This is a city of cinema, you know, the films that I grew up with, watching Italian cinema, to be able to take these cars and create action and develop character. The character of Hayley Atwell, Grace, really inspired the tone that we have through Rome. And I’ve always wanted to film in Venice andMcQ and I had talked about it for many, many years. So to be able to go fromRome to Venice – you’ll see it. And they’re both different tones and represent different emotional aspects of this picture. So this is ‘Part One’ of the film– howmany more ‘Mission: Impossible’ films do we have left to come? TOM CRUISE: We have already started filming a ‘Dead Reckoning Part Two’, but I don’t want to say any more than that! We’ll just have to wait! So tell us in your own words, why audiences should go see ‘Mission: Impossible Part One’? ’TOM CRUISE: There’s plenty of excitement. Plenty of action. And very vivid characters and a global cinema experience for audiences – that really needs to be seen on the big screen. I know there are other ways to see it but this film is really made from top to bottom, from every single location, from the characters, from the scale of the film, the mix that we have, the music in the film – it is an immersive experience for an audience. Tom, it’s been an honour. We know Simply AbuDhabi readers will love this chance to hear from you, and join us in wishing you all the best. Thank you! Tom Cruise: It’s been a pleasure! I loved shooting in the United Arab Emirates and I hope you will all enjoy the new film. Simply Abu Dhabi | 121
