T he worlds of haute couture and high jew- ellery should intertwine effortlessly, but all too often, thought Chopard’s Caroline Scheufele, the dress can overwhelm both the jewels and the wearer. From her unique perspective as artistic director and co-president of the legendary La Maison Chopard, Ms. Scheufele was inspired to create a resplendent array of couture that would harmonise magnificently with Chopard’s iconic high jewellery creations, allowing them to soar to new heights against their textile canvases - while never overwhelming the beauty of the wearer. Some- how, Caroline’s Couture brings into being artistic masterpieces even more beautiful than the sum of the – already spectacular - parts. The inaugural collections of Caroline’s Couture have, in just two years, become a much-anticipated and talked-about event. Celebrities have swarmed the red carpet at the film festival, of which Chopard has been an official partner for decades. While the Red Carpet Collection is already an icon among the Haute Joaillerie collections of the Maison, for Caroline’s Couture, Ms. Scheufele wanted to create couture that would perfectly match her jewellery by calling on young designers and couturiers. “I wanted to take on a new challenge: to move beyond my comfort zone; to extend the world of Chopard to Couture; to develop fabrics with colours reflecting those of the precious stones in our jewellery; to work with artisans as talented as our jewellers; as well as envisioning dresses and models perfectly consistent with my Haute Joaillerie collections.” Simply Abu Dhabi | 31
