S ince its creation in 1860, Chopard has perpetuated a heritage rich in traditions and craftsmanship by conceptualising and manufacturing creations with a contemporary charm synonymous with ethics and emotions. A family business, Chopard is headed by Co-Presidents Caroline and her brother Karl-Fried- rich Scheufele. Together, they compose the musical score of a Maison that is constantly renewed through a diversity of styles and materials, un- matched creativity and a will to overcome technical constraints, as well as by a series of bold moves. Chopard is the result of an encounter between two families with a watchmaking heritage. On the one hand, that of Louis-Ulysse Chopard, born in 1836, who founded his first watch manufactory special- ising in pocket watches and chronometers at the age of 24 in Sonvilier. On the other, that of Karl Scheufele I, an orphan from the city of Pforzheim, Germany, who trained in the gemsetting trade at a very early age and who established his first jewel- lery-watch company in this Black Forest town in 1904. The remarkable stories of the Chopard and Scheufe- le families throughout the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries merged together in 1963. As the current Chairman of Chopard, Karl Scheufele III passed on the Co-Presidency to his two children, Karl-Frie- drich and Caroline, whom he initiated into all the skills cultivated within the company from a very young age.
