History & Architecture The Hilton Molino Stucky’s fascinating story dates back to 1884, when the building was constructed as a flour mill by the Venetian entrepreneur Giovanni Stucky. In its heyday, the mill employed over 1,500 people and played a significant role in the city’s economic and cultural landscape. Sadly, Stucky’s life came to a tragic end in 1910, with rumours of his murder on the steps of the train station by his lover’s jealous husband. The mill remained abandoned for nearly 50 years, until Hilton Hotels recognised the immense potential of this crumbling structure. Through a meticulous renovation, the hotel has preserved the building’s original features, such as the wooden ceilings and iron pillars, while seamlessly integrating modern luxuries and amenities. The colour scheme of the guest rooms now reflects the neutral tones of the flour that was once produced on-site, complemented by hand-painted decorations that pay tribute to Venice’s seafaring history and the traditional crafts of the region, including the iconic Murano glass. Arrival Experience Guests often take the Alilaguna blue line directly from the airport to the Giudecca Stucky dock, located right outside the hotel doors, and this convenient transportation option allows for a stress-free start to any Venetian adventure. The Hilton Molino Stucky hosts many conventions and so walking under the flags and into the grand lobby, with its imposing archways and elegant furnishings, you could either find yourself thrust into a hive of activity, or as was the case for my visit, a relaxed atmosphere and an efficient check-in team cordially welcoming guests and assigning rooms with a smile.
