Our 3 Questions for Renée Zellweger Simply Abu Dhabi: You’ve had such a diverse and acclaimed career, but we were thrilled to see that you had come back to one of your best-loved roles in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy . What was that like? Renée Zellweger: It’s the best job in the world. I’ve always loved Bridget Jones, and I love her more with every reunion. I think she’s just so much fun, and the relationships that I’ve made over the course of experience – they get richer and richer with time. Getting to spend time in her world and surrounded by the gang again – it was just the best. You took a hiatus from acting for a while. What did you learn from that? Oh, certainly. If it feels necessary, or if there’s something else that seems important to explore. And I wasn’t wrong to do. I have no regrets about it. I needed to grow and try something new, to evolve. I just went away and lived my life and tried to grow and learn new things, and hopefully became a more interesting person as a result. Have you seen a similar evolution with Brid- get over the years? She was first seen as a representation of how we pick on ourselves about things that are entirely of no consequence, what’s considered socially acceptable in terms of your presentation. I never thought there was anything wrong with her. But her optimism… she’s self-scrutinizing and self-deprecating - but she’s laughing, she’s never defeated by it. And she finds a way through whatever it is, and triumphs in the end. And I think that’s inspirational. It gives everybody permission to be who we are. 94 | Simply Abu Dhabi
