As the dynamic duo Tweeted before the show, the personality, simplicity and natural beauty of the Sicilian man was the inspiration for this season. With a live Sicilian band in authentic costume providing the backbeat, the ‘real-life’ models captivated the audience with the new collection, which contrasts the earthy beauty of Sicilian heritage with the impeccable modern tailoring Dolce and Gabbana are famed for. Incorporating wool and linen gauze layered with organza and veils, and showcasing souvenir-style prints reminiscent of Sicily’s traditional barrows, “pupi” (puppets) and temples, the collection also features fresh white shirts with open collars, and awning stripes on thick hem cloth and cotton, inspired by Sicilian beaches such as Taormina, Cefalù, Mondello and the Eolie islands. The footwear in the show recalled sandals and shoes made of cloth – all basking in the earthy, Mediterranean and slightly rugged ambiance that is Sicily. The feeling was unmistakably summer; the sun-baked warmth radiating through even the most bespoke fabrics. Dolce and Gabbana are known for drawing inspiration from their native Italy. But this show was not merely a nod to their roots; it was a visual love letter to the Mediterranean island that inspires their passion for design. Unlike runway experiences that are purely about visual impact, Dolce and Gabbana created an authentic, visceral, and emotional tribute to their beloved Sicily, and brought the audience along for the journey.
