Part Rocky, part Elvis and part Mr. T, the look combines heavyweight jewelry and featherweight filigree, iridescent parkas that double for ringside robes, and punchy pastels. The collection celebrates the man as a modern-day gladiator and one who is not afraid to make an entrance. The collection is infused with lightness, luminosity and fluidity in both in colour and fabrics. A graphic floral print with abstract shapes is used on denim, full-leg shorts, jersey-silk blousons and silk voile shirts. And for eveningwear, beautifully decorative Broderie Anglaise effects enhance a garment’s elegance and make it distinctive and memorable. As for the hot colours this season, choose from aqua, cream, white, drizzle grey, fuchsia, angel pink, metallics (gold, silver and copper), caramel, and black. For summer fabrics, options include lightweight bouclé, nylon jacquard, parachute-silk lamé, summer-weight mohair, summer wool jacquard, denim, and leather. Patterns are also the name of the game, boasting prints inspired by the Versace archive and “Memphis” stripes, while shoes are seen in metallic-leather gladiator trainer sandals, tasseled rubber loafers, and monk shoes with Versace’s signature Medusa-head fastener. Menswear accessories include masculine tote bags in aqua, fuchsia and metallic leathers; oversized briefcases in grey, black and brown leather, leather bracelets with metallic Medusas, metallic or woven leather belts, metal armlets, tie pins, jacquard silk ties and scarves. The season also marks the launch of the numerous additions to Versace’s menswear, such as the new Versace Underwear and Swimwear collections. And for tailoring, the House continues to build on an imposing V-shaped silhouette, with slim hips and a powerful shoulder line. In a fresh twist, jackets are often shown sleeveless.
