Zayed University's Twenty Faculty Members Recognised Among World's Top 2% Scientists

The university's researchers across five colleges have achieved international distinction through the Stanford–Elsevier ranking, reflecting sustained excellence in fields from artificial intelligence to environmental science.

Twenty faculty members at Zayed University have secured their place among the world’s most influential scientists, a distinction that speaks to the calibre of research and intellectual rigour fostered across the institution. The 2026 Stanford–Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists list represents a significant validation of the university’s commitment to advancing knowledge in disciplines that shape the modern world.

The recognised scholars represent five distinct colleges: Technological Innovation, Natural and Health Sciences, Interdisciplinary Studies, Business, and Communication and Media Sciences. Their research encompasses artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, health sciences, environmental studies and business disciplines, demonstrating the breadth of intellectual inquiry that characterises the university’s academic ecosystem.

The Stanford–Elsevier assessment employs rigorous standardised citation indicators derived from Scopus author profiles, evaluating researchers through citation impact, the h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index and composite citation scoring. This methodology accounts for variations in citation practices across different scientific fields, ensuring a nuanced and fair evaluation of scholarly contribution.

Prof. Kevin Hall, President and CEO of Zayed University, noted that the recognition underscores the institution’s foundational commitment to fostering research excellence. “Their work enriches our students’ learning experience, contributes to their respective fields, and addresses challenges relevant to the UAE’s priorities,” he observed, emphasising how faculty scholarship directly informs the educational experience and supports the nation’s transition towards a knowledge-based economy.

The presence of faculty members in previous editions of the ranking, some appearing for multiple consecutive years, reflects a sustained pattern of international recognition. This continuity demonstrates that research excellence at Zayed University is not episodic but rather embedded within the institution’s culture and values. As the university celebrated its graduation of 371 scholars earlier this year, this latest achievement reinforces the symbiotic relationship between research vitality and educational excellence that shapes the student experience.

The university’s research endeavours extend beyond theoretical advancement into partnership and applied discovery. Earlier this year, Zayed University partnered with SPARX Industries to advance student research in advanced materials, exemplifying how the institution translates scholarly expertise into opportunities for emerging researchers to engage with real-world challenges and innovations.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

This recognition of twenty faculty members among the world’s most cited scientists strengthens Abu Dhabi’s position as an intellectual centre within the region. The breadth of research spanning artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, health and environmental sciences directly aligns with the emirate’s strategic priorities and its commitment to fostering innovation across sectors critical to sustainable development and economic competitiveness.

The sustained international visibility of Zayed University’s research contributes tangibly to the knowledge landscape that supports the UAE’s transition towards a knowledge-based economy. As faculty members advance understanding in fields from machine learning to environmental sciences, they create pathways through which Abu Dhabi’s emerging talent acquires expertise and engages with challenges of genuine global significance, preparing graduates to assume leadership roles in innovation, research and transformative sectors.
