The Academy hosts a day of bowling and basketball competition for female athletes from Special Olympics UAE, embodying a commitment to inclusive sport and social empowerment.
Sport possesses a singular power to unite, to inspire and to illuminate the potential within every person. On Saturday, 31st October, the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy will host the Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy’s Sports Challenge for Special Olympics UAE, an event that channels this transformative energy into meaningful competition and community connection.
Organised in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Special Olympics UAE, and guided by the UAE Basketball Association and Emirates Bowling Federation, the challenge brings together female athletes from Special Olympics UAE to compete in bowling and 3×3 basketball. These competitions offer participants a platform to demonstrate their technical and physical prowess whilst developing teamwork, communication and confidence in a supportive sporting environment.
The initiative reflects a broader institutional vision for sport as a vehicle for empowerment and social inclusion. As we reported in our coverage of the Academy’s 16 years of advancing women in sport, the organisation has consistently positioned itself as a catalyst for talent development and competitive excellence across Abu Dhabi and the Arab region.
Dr Omniyat Mohammed Al Hajeri, Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, articulated the Academy’s philosophy: “Organising the Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy’s Sports challenge for Special Olympics UAE is an extension of the Academy’s vision to use sport as an effective tool for empowerment and social inclusion. It reflects our continued commitment to providing distinctive sporting platforms where People of Determination can showcase their abilities and talents and participate in a positive, supportive environment that builds confidence and motivates them to achieve even more.”
The event carries particular resonance within the context of the Year of the Family, an initiative dedicated to strengthening community bonds and enhancing the social fabric of Emirati society. By creating inclusive sporting spaces and broadening participation amongst people of all abilities, the Academy reinforces the values of solidarity and mutual support that define thriving communities.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
This Sports Challenge represents a tangible expression of Abu Dhabi’s commitment to inclusive excellence. By providing People of Determination with meaningful opportunities to participate in organised sport, the Academy advances a vision of society in which every individual possesses the agency to compete, to develop their talents and to belong within the sporting community. The event strengthens Abu Dhabi’s institutional infrastructure for inclusive sport and deepens the partnerships between cultural, sporting and governmental bodies that serve the emirate’s citizens.
Beyond the immediate competition, such initiatives contribute to broader social resilience and wellbeing. When young women from Special Olympics UAE step onto the court or the bowling lane, they experience not merely the satisfaction of athletic participation, but also the profound human affirmation of being welcomed, valued and celebrated. This ripples outward, shaping how society perceives ability, potential and belonging.
