ADNOC Gas Secures Five-Year LNG Supply Partnership with TotalEnergies

ADNOC Gas Secures Five-Year LNG Supply Partnership with TotalEnergies

A major new agreement underscores Abu Dhabi's growing prominence as a global energy supplier, as ADNOC Gas commits to deliver 1.6 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas to the French energy giant over five years.

The relationship between ADNOC Gas and TotalEnergies, stretching back across decades of collaborative energy ventures, has matured into a fresh commitment that signals both parties’ confidence in long-term energy security and supply stability. The five-year liquefied natural gas agreement, signed in November, commits ADNOC Gas to supplying up to 1.6 million tonnes of LNG to TotalEnergies, reflecting the strategic importance of sustained partnerships in global energy markets.

Fatema Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC Gas, observed that global demand for LNG continues its upward trajectory, positioning ADNOC Gas to capitalise on expanding opportunities. The agreement, she noted, demonstrates the competitive strength of the company’s LNG offering and its ability to forge enduring partnerships that create shareholder value while enhancing energy resilience.

The timing of this accord coincides with a significant evolution in ADNOC’s commercial infrastructure. The company has recently established an integrated global LNG marketing and trading platform, bringing together the LNG marketing activities of ADNOC Gas and XRG with the trading capabilities of ADNOC Trading. This unified commercial entity represents a pivotal phase in ADNOC Gas’s development as a global LNG supplier, expanding its access to a more diversified portfolio whilst enabling increasingly flexible and customer-responsive supply arrangements.

The platform is targeting 47 million tonnes per annum of marketable LNG beyond 2030, positioning itself among the world’s most significant LNG marketing and trading organisations. For Abu Dhabi, this trajectory reinforces the emirate’s standing as a global energy trading hub, where capital, expertise and strategic infrastructure converge to serve international markets.

Stéphane Michel, President Gas, Renewables and Power at TotalEnergies, characterised the agreement as a milestone in the companies’ long partnership, emphasising TotalEnergies’ commitment to deepening cooperation. He highlighted the geographical advantage of Abu Dhabi’s position, situated strategically between European and Asian energy markets, which enables TotalEnergies to strengthen its position as a principal LNG portfolio supplier to both regions.

Looking ahead, ADNOC Gas anticipates that the future integration of Ruwais LNG will substantially increase LNG production capacity, positioning the company to meet growing global demand whilst establishing itself among the world’s leading LNG suppliers. Source: WAM

What it means for Abu Dhabi

This agreement underscores Abu Dhabi’s sustained emergence as an indispensable player in global energy markets. As international demand for LNG continues to grow, partnerships of this scale and duration reflect confidence in the emirate’s ability to reliably supply energy to diverse markets across the globe. The development also demonstrates how Abu Dhabi’s strategic infrastructure and long-established industry expertise translate into sustained commercial advantage at the highest levels of international energy commerce.

The creation of an integrated LNG marketing and trading platform, advancing towards 47 million tonnes per annum of marketable capacity beyond 2030, positions Abu Dhabi as a global energy trading hub of increasing significance. For the emirate’s economy, this trajectory means sustained investment in industrial capacity, skilled employment, and the kind of high-value commercial activity that strengthens Abu Dhabi’s diversified economy. As ADNOC expands its Asian energy partnerships through similar supply agreements, Abu Dhabi’s role as a connector between global energy markets becomes increasingly central to international energy security.
