Collectors and cultural enthusiasts gathered at Sharjah Mega Mall for a five-day celebration of philately and numismatics, bringing together participants from eleven countries and over two hundred frames of stamps spanning continents and centuries.
The Sharjah Stamp Exhibition has long held a particular place in the cultural calendar of the Emirates, drawing those who understand that stamps are far more than postage. They are, in essence, small windows into the stories of nations and the moments that define them. From November 4 to 8, the exhibition returned to Sharjah Mega Mall, creating an immersive space where the careful work of collectors met the curiosity of newcomers and families seeking to understand the deeper narratives embedded in these miniature artworks.
Organised by the Emirates Philatelic Association in partnership with Sharjah Mega Mall, the exhibition brought together participants from eleven countries: Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Two hundred and twelve philatelic frames were displayed alongside thirty-eight dealers, each representing the diversity of stamp collecting across the region and beyond. The scale of such gatherings speaks to something enduring in our relationship with these artefacts, a recognition that history and heritage can be preserved and shared through thoughtful curation and community gathering.
The official opening ceremony welcomed Sheikh Khaled Bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Documentation and Archive Authority, and Salah Salem Al Mahmoud, Director General of Sharjah Archives. Their presence underscored the significance of philately as a serious cultural pursuit, one worthy of institutional support and recognition.
Abdulla Khoory, President of the Emirates Philatelic Association, reflected on the deeper purpose of such exhibitions. “As we step into another year of the Sharjah Stamp Exhibition, we celebrate not only the collections but the stories and legacies they carry. Stamps serve as windows to our past, marking historical events, achievements, and cultural milestones. This exhibition continues to grow as a bridge between generations, honouring the history we share and passing it forward.”
The exhibition, as we have reported in earlier cultural celebrations across Sharjah, reflects the emirate’s commitment to creating spaces where heritage and contemporary engagement intersect. The programming was designed to serve all audiences: seasoned collectors could engage with industry experts and explore the intricate history behind prized acquisitions, while families and newcomers found hands-on activities and welcoming entry points into the world of philately and numismatics.
Morhaf Kishi, General Manager of Sharjah Mega Mall, emphasised the partnership’s mutual benefit. “At Sharjah Mega Mall, we are proud to be a longstanding partner in hosting the Sharjah Stamp Exhibition, a highlight in our cultural calendar. This event not only draws visitors from all over but enriches our community by celebrating culture, art, history, and tradition. It’s an honour to support an exhibition that inspires such interest in our heritage.”
What it means for Abu Dhabi
For residents and visitors across the emirates, the Sharjah Stamp Exhibition represents the region’s broader commitment to preserving and celebrating cultural heritage through thoughtful programming and community engagement. The participation of collectors from across the Gulf and beyond demonstrates the emirate’s role as a cultural hub, drawing expertise and enthusiasm that enriches the entire region.
Such exhibitions serve as reminders that heritage is not merely historical; it is a living practice, sustained through the dedication of collectors, institutions and communities who understand that these objects carry within them the accumulated knowledge and identity of our region. The exhibition’s success reflects an appreciation for the craftsmanship, artistry and historical significance embodied in even the smallest treasures.
