Tahnoon bin Zayed meets President of Azerbaijan
H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser, met President Ilham Aliyev in Azerbaijan to advance UAE‑Azerbaijan strategic and economic ties.
Abu Dhabi deputy ruler discusses deepening strategic partnership
ABU DHABI, 14th September, 2026 — H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser, visited the Republic of Azerbaijan and held talks with President Ilham Aliyev.
During the meeting Sheikh Tahnoon conveyed the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to President Aliyev and extended his best wishes for continued progress and prosperity for Azerbaijan and its people.
The leaders discussed the friendship and strategic partnership between the United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan, reviewing avenues to strengthen relations and broaden prospects for joint cooperation. In particular, the two sides examined priority areas for enhanced collaboration and investment, including energy, infrastructure, technology and natural resources.
Both parties underlined the importance of building on recent advances in bilateral relations and of supporting partnerships and projects that foster sustainable development and serve the shared interests of the two countries. Discussions focused on practical measures to expand economic ties and identify new opportunities for mutually beneficial investment.
As part of the visit Sheikh Tahnoon and President Aliyev witnessed the signing and exchange of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding between entities from the UAE and Azerbaijan. The instruments aim to widen areas of cooperation and boost joint investment between the two states, reaffirming their commitment to developing economic and investment partnerships in priority sectors.
The meeting and signing ceremony were attended by H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed and a delegation of senior officials and representatives of relevant UAE and Azerbaijani entities.
The visit signals Abu Dhabi’s continuing engagement to consolidate bilateral relations with friendly capitals and to pursue concrete economic and strategic initiatives in coordination with federal leadership.
