Ministry of Interior and World Wide Academy sign MoU to enhance K9 police capabilities
The UAE Ministry of Interior has signed a memorandum with World Wide Academy (K9) in Abu Dhabi to strengthen training, certification and operational preparedness of police dog teams.
Agreement to bolster K9 training and readiness
On 15 September 2026 in Abu Dhabi, the Ministry of Interior (MOI) formalised a cooperation agreement with World Wide Academy (K9) aimed at raising the standards of police dog operations. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Brigadier Saeed Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Assistant Under-Secretary for Security Affairs, for the Ministry and by Jassim Abdullah Al Shurafa, Director-General of the Academy.
The MoU sets out a framework for sustained collaboration across a number of practical areas. These include delivery of specialist training programmes for both trainers and police dogs, certification of trainers in line with leading international standards, and the conduct of joint field exercises to test and refine operational procedures.
Partnership activities will also encompass the development of training curricula and the exchange of expertise and best practice. By aligning instructional content and assessment methods with recognised benchmarks, the two parties aim to ensure that personnel and canine teams meet consistent, high-quality standards in detection, search and other operational tasks.
The agreement places particular emphasis on advancing the K9 security inspection system. That work is intended to strengthen efficiency and operational preparedness, enabling canine units to respond effectively to a range of requirements across security and public-safety contexts. Joint exercises and shared training materials are expected to enhance interoperability and enable the rapid adoption of proven techniques.
The MoU reflects a shared commitment to continuous professional development and to maintaining capabilities that support national security objectives. By combining the MOI’s operational experience with the Academy’s specialised training expertise, the partnership seeks to sustain improvements in performance and readiness across police dog teams.
Officials emphasised the practical nature of the cooperation, which focuses on measurable outcomes such as certified trainer qualifications, updated curricula and regular field testing. These measures are designed to ensure that investments in training translate into operational benefits, contributing to broader efforts to preserve security and public safety.
