The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has upgraded the emirate’s holiday‑home regulatory system to shorten approval times, simplify licensing and enhance digital integration with government partners.
DCT Abu Dhabi updates holiday‑home framework
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has introduced a suite of improvements to the regulatory regime governing holiday homes in the emirate. The measures are intended to accelerate approvals, simplify licensing procedures for owners and operators, and provide a modern digital platform that better integrates with other government systems.
According to DCT Abu Dhabi, the refreshed system reduces administrative delays and offers a more flexible online experience for sector participants and partners. Beyond easing the process of obtaining permits, the platform is designed to strengthen regulatory compliance and to support better revenue management for holiday‑home businesses.
Stronger oversight and data protections
The upgraded platform includes enhanced tools for monitoring, inspections and compliance tracking. DCT Abu Dhabi says these capabilities will help operators maintain consistent operational standards while meeting regulatory obligations, reinforcing quality and safety across the sector.
The authority has emphasised that the system complies fully with required data protection policies, ensuring that users’ sensitive information is managed and stored in line with stringent security and integrity standards.
Part of a continuing digital transformation
Hamad Mohammed Alsudain, Acting Executive Director of Support Services at DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “The holiday homes sector continues to experience robust growth, driven by greater transparency and enhanced efficiency and an increasingly user‑friendly operating environment. These advances further strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a world‑class tourism destination. The current improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to digital transformation and honour DCT Abu Dhabi’s commitment under Tourism Strategy 2030 to further enhance the holiday home segment to diversify accommodation options.”
The latest enhancements build on prior work. In 2024 DCT Abu Dhabi coordinated with government stakeholders to integrate the Holiday Home System with the Department of Municipalities and Transport and with the self‑inspection system, cutting permit issuance time to under six hours.
By improving digital connectivity with other agencies and embedding compliance and revenue tools within the licensing platform, the authority aims to make it simpler for legitimate operators to comply with rules while creating a more transparent commercial environment that supports the emirate’s wider tourism objectives under Tourism Strategy 2030.
Stakeholders in the accommodation and tourism sectors can expect a more predictable and efficient licensing pathway as DCT Abu Dhabi continues its digital transformation efforts, with the stated goal of expanding accommodation choice and supporting sustainable growth in visitor numbers.
