RASID awarded My Green Lab® Gold certification for sustainable laboratory operations
Abu Dhabi’s RASID, part of the Central Testing Laboratory at the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council and operated with M42, is the first government wastewater and environmental surveillance laboratory to reach My Green Lab® Gold.
New benchmark for sustainable government laboratories
The Reference And Surveillance Intelligence Department (RASID), within the Central Testing Laboratory at the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (ADQCC) and operated in partnership with M42, has been awarded My Green Lab® Gold Certification. The recognition identifies RASID as an advanced laboratory that balances scientific rigour with resource efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
RASID is the first operational government laboratory specialising in wastewater monitoring and environmental surveillance to achieve the Gold level under the My Green Lab® programme. The international scheme evaluates laboratory practice across energy, water and resource efficiency, waste management, sustainable procurement and workplace environmental culture.
ADQCC framed the achievement as evidence that sustainable practice can be integrated into high-performance laboratory systems. Engineer Abdulla Hassan Al Muaini, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory at the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, underlined that the Council views advanced laboratories as strategic infrastructure that should combine technical competence with sustainability and innovation to deliver long-term value for government and the community.
Partners at M42 emphasised the role of technology in meeting those aims. Dr. Fahed Al Marzooqi, Chief Executive Officer of the Integrated Health Solutions platform at M42, described the certification as a milestone demonstrating how scientific excellence, automation, digital capability and artificial intelligence can be deployed together to strengthen public health preparedness and proactive risk management.
Ahmed Muadhad Al Muhairi, General Manager of Environmental Sciences at M42, said sustainability was embedded in RASID’s design rather than added as a separate measure. He noted that reaching Gold introduces a new international benchmark for operational efficiency and resource use, and helps shape RASID as a model for future laboratories that must combine speed, quality and lower environmental impact.
RASID supports early detection of health and environmental risks through advanced testing, wastewater monitoring, surveillance and data analytics. The department is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), reflecting adherence to recognised international standards for technical competence and test reliability.
Samara Bin Salem, Director of the Reference Monitoring and Analysis Department, said the laboratory linked its objectives to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and used digital transformation and artificial intelligence to improve efficiency, reduce waste and strengthen the accuracy and timeliness of analysis. The Gold certification, she added, is an important step toward an integrated model for government laboratories that aligns technical performance with environmental responsibility.
