Abu Dhabi Mobility Invests Over AED300 Million in Next-Generation Smart Transport Systems

The Integrated Transport Centre has unveiled an ambitious digital transformation programme featuring advanced automated vehicle management and intelligent fare collection technologies, positioning Abu Dhabi at the forefront of sustainable urban mobility.
The Integrated Transport Centre, operating as Abu Dhabi Mobility and an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has announced a transformative investment exceeding AED300 million in next-generation public transport infrastructure. The announcement came during the centre’s participation in LIVEX 2026, signalling a decisive commitment to modernising the emirate’s mobility ecosystem through cutting-edge digital innovation.
Advanced Technologies and Smart Systems
The strategic project encompasses the implementation of an advanced Automated Vehicle Management (AVM) system alongside the development of an integrated digital smart fare collection platform. These complementary technologies will harness data analytics and sophisticated digital capabilities to create a more efficient, responsive and sustainable transport network capable of serving Abu Dhabi’s expanding population and economic ambitions.
The contract has been awarded to Conduent Business Solutions S.A.S., a French company within the global Conduent Group, renowned for specialising in smart mobility solutions and electronic fare collection systems. With more than five decades of experience, Conduent operates across more than 400 public transport networks across more than 20 countries, positioning the organisation to bring proven international expertise and best practices to Abu Dhabi’s modernisation programme.
Operational Benefits and Enhanced User Experience
The Automated Vehicle Management system will deliver real-time monitoring capabilities for bus operations and passenger journeys, substantially improving schedule adherence and fleet management efficiency. By strengthening operational reliability and enabling data-driven decision-making, the system will optimise resource allocation and support the centre’s strategic planning objectives.
The Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system introduces flexible payment mechanisms including bank cards, digital payment methods and QR code technology, substantially simplifying transactions whilst enriching the passenger experience. The system will simultaneously generate sophisticated operational data to inform continuous service improvements and efficiency enhancements across the network.
Strategic Vision and Future Readiness
His Excellency Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre, stated: “This project represents a strategic investment in developing the digital infrastructure of Abu Dhabi’s public transport system and reflects the centre’s commitment to leveraging data and advanced technologies to build a smarter, more efficient and sustainable mobility ecosystem. Through the development of transport management systems and smart fare collection solutions, we are strengthening our data-driven decision-making capabilities, enhancing service efficiency and customer experience, supporting quality of life, and reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading destination for living, investment and the development of future mobility solutions.”
The initiative forms an integral component of the Integrated Transport Centre’s broader digital transformation strategy, designed to accelerate technological adoption, elevate customer experience standards, and establish robust planning foundations for future mobility networks. By deploying artificial intelligence and advanced technologies across service management and operations, the project positions Abu Dhabi to accommodate sustained population growth and economic expansion whilst maintaining service excellence and operational sustainability.
