Burton’s name will sound familiar to the fashion-savvy. That’s because she designed what is probably the most talked about dress of the millennium thus far: the bridal gown worn by Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, for her wedding to Prince William of England in 2011. The lace appliqué bodice and Victorian-inspired fit launched a new craze for British fashion – and propelled Burton to global renown. And in her new collection for Alexander McQueen, Burton expands on some of these British themes: from the white broderie anglaise frocks, through the regal Tudor and Stewart collars, to the mossy prints and textures, there’s a strong identity running through the line – one that continues some of the trademark McQueen motifs but firmly establishes Burton as someone with her own creative vision.
