DSQUARED2 – Autumn/Winter 2014 C lear-cut colours and hard-wearing, functional materials take centre stage in the Dean and Dan collection for Autumn and Winter 2014. Inspired by a unique and supremely confident angle on fashion, the crisp designs are chiefly utilitarian and built from strong lines and bold, square cuts. A resurgence of denim is well placed within such a range to accentuate heavy material bleaching and stonewashed or distressed details. Woollen coats are plain and simple with parka jackets uniting cloth and technical fabrics, and stonewashed denim making an appearance in sharply cut jackets and jeans. Trousers are cropped or turned at the hem whilst outerwear like padded jackets becomes formalised with blazer-style tailoring. Sweats and shirts are embellished with text and the uppermost layers are tailored to show garments below at both sleeve and hem. The palette for the range is simple and workmanlike. Potent oranges and vivid industrial blues pair up with plenty of black and the occasional flash of reflective colour. Silk and wool provide an intriguing balance to the strong, aggressive cuts and colours of trench coats and robust jackets, creating a solid and unilateral effect that is reminiscent of institutionalised or uniform clothing. Accessories are starkly understated and almost effortlessly blend into the collection. Strong bags fashioned from polished leather have an almost medical aura and fluctuate between elegant eccentricity and functional apparel. Dsquared2 once again take unusual influences and build upon them to create an equally unusual but unerringly fresh and tangible collection that combines tough, hard-wearing designs with exaggerated and eccentric styles.
