1 9 7 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I TOD’S SHOES T hrough the combination of traditional artisanal craftsmanship and contemporary design, Tod’s has become known the world over for its stylish, elegant and practical footwear. However, it is the spirit of Made in Italy that really sets Tod’s apart, season after season, and the innovations for Spring/Summer 2015 demonstrate perfectly how this has been harnessed once again to create a shoe collection that effortlessly blends form and function. The new Tod’s shoe collection for women sees the evolution of a signature detail – the Spilla (or in English, the “pin”). This unexpected, lustrous highlight adds a new dimension to the famous Tod’s Gommino shoe, as well as to the house moccasin style, transforming these established design classics with a contemporary twist. The Espadrille also getsmade over; a new version features the iconic house Gommino sole beneath the familiar line of rope running around the base of the style, thus adding a distinctive – and decidedly Tod’s – touch. The result is sure to prove a holiday favourite. The design possibilities of the sandal, too, are explored. Here, wood, rubber and leather are combined, to deliver new sporty classics with andwithout heels. Wood features in a saddle-shaped heel, combined with the sculptural element of a lacquered band. It also sits alongside rubber and rubber Gommini ‘pebbles’ in an architectural play of contrasts, which offers an urban flavour. Materials for the season’s shoes include classic whole calfskin leather, patent leather, chrome-tanned whole and half calf leather, brushed suede lamé, calfskin brushed suede, vegetable-tanned calfskin, metallic goatskin leather, shiny calfskin suede and laminated leather. Colours range from summer brights and pastels to more muted, classic tones.
