Simply Abu Dhabi Magazine XVII

Most of the collection is rendered in solid colours, some muted and some rich, such as the deep burgundy and hints of teal. Against that backdrop, the lighter prints appear like a sweet spring breeze – orchids in shades of pink and violet are splashed across a white background on tailored jackets and trousers, whilst a pale yellow floral print skirt floats delicately under a structured military-inspired white shirt in a juxtaposed yet harmonious composition. Bold black and white stripes adorn a long-sleeved fitted dress, and appear in abbreviated form on a white mid-length skirt for a more understated day look. Gone are the ultra-fitted dresses and stiletto heels from the brand’s early days. In their place, VB devotees will find a complete wardrobe of sophisticated, highly wearable pieces to pair together or use as separates. And in an intriguing move that makes us want to see more, Beckham presented shoes of her own design at the spring/summer catwalk show. Given that the stylish designer is usually spotted in towering heels, attendees at the show were surprised to see the models in chunky platforms, sandals and even pointy-toed flats embellished with leather cut-outs. Beckham’s footwear creations for the show were not, as of this writing, available for sale at her atelier, but we’re excited about the possibilities. Her shoes captured the same tailored, classic elegance and ease on display in the rest of the spring/summer collection. We can’t wait to see what she does next. Victoria Beckham may have risen to fame as a pop singer, but it’s as a talented, elegant, thoroughly modern designer that she’s found her true voice. 2 0 5 S I M P LY A B U DH A B I
