A thousand voices, one purpose: Healthcare’s finest gather to celebrate excellence

A thousand voices, one purpose: Healthcare's finest gather to celebrate excellence

At the sixth Annual Health Awards, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak honours the doctors, nurses and institutions reshaping medicine across the Emirates, recognising both the skilled hands and the human values that lie at healthcare's heart.

A thousand guests filled the Grand Hyatt Dubai on the morning of 28 October as Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, took the stage to celebrate those who have devoted their lives to the care of others. The sixth Annual Health Awards brought together dignitaries, healthcare leaders and professionals from across the public and private sectors, each gathered to witness the recognition of more than fifty categories spanning clinical excellence, surgical innovation, public health, wellness leadership, healthcare education and research.

The awards held particular significance this year for the fifteen outstanding UAE nationals honoured for their contributions to the country’s healthcare system. Sheikh Nahyan spoke of their achievement as a confirmation of growing Emirati talent in one of the most demanding professions, and offered an invitation to young Emiratis to follow their example. “Their recognition also honours the families, mentors, and institutions that trained and supported them,” he reflected, drawing a thread between individual achievement and the networks of support that make such excellence possible.

What emerged throughout the ceremony was a vision of healthcare as something profoundly human. Sheikh Nahyan spoke of the diverse workforce within the country’s medical institutions, where men and women of many nationalities work side by side, united by a single purpose: the wellbeing of the patient. In healthcare, he suggested, tolerance and coexistence move beyond the abstract into daily practice. “They are lived every day in the doctor who treats every patient with dignity, the nurse who comforts a family from another culture, and teams consisting of many nationalities working together for a common human purpose,” he said.

The evening also acknowledged the role of technology in reshaping medicine. Artificial intelligence and other emerging tools are helping clinicians detect disease and support research, yet Sheikh Nahyan was careful to underscore a fundamental truth: technology delivers its greatest value only when placed in skilled and ethical hands. “Technology can enhance medical knowledge,” he noted, “but it cannot replace compassion, ethical judgement, accountability, or the trust between patient and healthcare provider.”

In recognition of this year being designated the Year of the Family in the Emirates, Sheikh Nahyan addressed the families of healthcare professionals, acknowledging the long hours, night shifts and missed occasions that accompany a life devoted to caring for others. “To the families of today’s winners, I say thank you. Your support helped make these achievements possible,” he said, weaving together the themes of family support and professional dedication that define the country’s healthcare narrative.

The evaluation process itself reflected a commitment to merit and independence. Knight Frank, serving as Knowledge Partner, conducted an audited, merit-based assessment of every nomination alongside a jury of senior clinicians, academics and industry leaders, guided by a principle stated with clarity: a Health Award cannot be bought or influenced. It must be earned.

Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group and organiser of the awards through Health Magazine, expressed gratitude for the continued patronage of Sheikh Nahyan and offered congratulations to every winner. The awards have grown from Health Magazine’s foundations in 1999, evolving into a comprehensive recognition of excellence across the healthcare professions.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

The recognition of fifteen UAE nationals marks a milestone in the country’s healthcare narrative. These awards celebrate the growing strength of Emirati talent in medicine and the health sciences, offering both acknowledgement and inspiration for the next generation of young Emiratis considering careers in healthcare. As the country continues to invest in developing its human capital, these celebrations of professional excellence serve to strengthen the nation’s commitment to healthcare standards built on rigorous achievement and innovation.

Beyond individual recognition, the awards reflect the wider healthcare philosophy guiding the Emirates. Under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the country has built a healthcare system rooted in excellence, openness to innovation and care for every individual and community. The convergence of technological advancement with enduring human values such as compassion and ethical judgement signals a healthcare system maturing in its vision, one where progress is measured not only by medical breakthroughs but by the dignity afforded to every patient and the respect shown to every member of the healthcare workforce.
