Abu Dhabi hosts global military medicine congress bringing together 120 nations

The 46th World Congress on Military Medicine arrives at ADNEC this November, positioning the UAE as an international centre for advancing healthcare excellence and emergency preparedness.

From 9th to 13th November, Abu Dhabi becomes the gathering place for military and medical leaders from more than 120 countries, as the capital hosts the 46th World Congress on Military Medicine at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The event represents a significant moment in the global healthcare calendar, bringing together specialists to share knowledge, strengthen international partnerships and explore the evolving landscape of military medicine and humanitarian healthcare.

The congress, held biennially under the supervision of the International Committee of Military Medicine since 1921, serves as a platform for exchanging the latest research, scientific experiences and professional practices in this specialised field. This year’s scientific programme encompasses a wide range of critical topics: health and medical readiness, infectious diseases and mental health, preparedness for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear risks, alongside medical and surgical care in operational environments, trauma and burn medicine, medical evacuation, resuscitation and haemorrhage control.

The Frontline Heroes Office emphasises that the congress will highlight the essential role of military and civilian healthcare personnel who protect lives and deliver care under the most challenging conditions. The event extends beyond formal sessions to include workshops, professional meetings and an accompanying exhibition, creating multiple touchpoints for knowledge exchange and collaboration.

In keeping with the UAE’s commitment to mental wellbeing, the Frontline Heroes Office has emphasised psychological support for those in demanding professional roles, a principle that resonates throughout the congress agenda. The inclusion of mental health as a core theme underscores the international community’s recognition that comprehensive healthcare extends beyond the physical to encompass emotional and psychological resilience.

The choice of Abu Dhabi as host reflects the emirate’s evolution as a global destination for specialised conferences, underpinned by advanced infrastructure, a skilled workforce and proven organisational capabilities. The Frontline Heroes Office notes that international cooperation, knowledge exchange and investment in modern medical technologies are fundamental to developing healthcare professionals’ capabilities, improving crisis and disaster response, supporting humanitarian operations and strengthening healthcare systems for future challenges.

The congress arrives at a time when healthcare systems worldwide face evolving demands, from pandemic preparedness to managing the medical consequences of complex emergencies. By bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise, the event strengthens the global capacity to respond to health crises with coordination, innovation and compassion.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

Hosting the congress reinforces Abu Dhabi’s position as a centre of excellence for international collaboration and knowledge exchange. The event attracts global expertise to the emirate, enriching the local healthcare ecosystem and creating opportunities for Emirati medical professionals to engage with cutting-edge developments and international best practices.

The gathering also advances the UAE’s humanitarian values and commitment to global health security. By facilitating dialogue among military and civilian healthcare leaders, the congress contributes to stronger international networks and improved crisis response capabilities that ultimately benefit communities across the world, including within the UAE itself.
