This December, the emirate welcomes back its flagship community event, transforming Hudayriyat Island and Al Ain's Al Jahiri Park into vibrant spaces where families discover the pleasure and practicality of healthier living.
The Festival of Health, a free community event rooted in Abu Dhabi’s commitment to prevention and wellbeing, returns this December with expanded experiences designed to make health education engaging and accessible to all. Running from 11 to 15 December at Hudayriyat Island and from 24 to 28 December at Al Jahiri Park in Al Ain, the festival brings together government entities, the private sector and communities in a collaborative effort to inspire lasting behaviour change.
Organised by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre in collaboration with the Department of Health Abu Dhabi, the event reflects a fundamental shift in how the emirate approaches wellbeing: moving from reactive healthcare towards a preventive model centred on people and communities. The festival’s vision rests on four core pillars: movement, nutrition, sleep and mental wellbeing, with programming designed to bridge the gap between awareness and action through hands-on learning and practical guidance.
Families, young people, older adults and People of Determination will find experiences tailored to their needs. Evidence-based workshops run alongside cooking demonstrations, fitness sessions and mindfulness activities, whilst interactive challenges and family-friendly entertainment create opportunities for visitors to explore healthier alternatives and develop skills they can carry into daily life. Rather than positioning wellbeing as obligation, the festival frames it as a source of enjoyment, energy and personal achievement.
Held during the UAE’s Year of the Family, the festival emphasises the role families play in shaping healthy behaviours across generations. Children, parents and grandparents learning and discovering together creates a shared understanding of health that can become woven into family life itself. This intergenerational approach recognises that sustainable change stems from habits formed within families and communities, not from top-down directives alone.
The festival builds on the momentum of its inaugural edition, evolving as Abu Dhabi’s flagship platform for advancing public health priorities. By fostering what it calls a lasting culture of prevention, the event seeks to empower individuals to take active responsibility for their health, contributing to a more resilient emirate.
