ADIB sustains robust momentum with profit growth and expanding customer franchise

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank has demonstrated resilient financial performance in the first nine months of 2026, with profit before tax rising six per cent to AED 6.4 billion, underpinned by broad-based growth across its core businesses and a rapidly expanding customer base.

The financial landscape of Abu Dhabi’s banking sector continues to reflect the region’s economic vitality. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank has maintained strong growth momentum throughout the first nine months of 2026, with the institution’s profit before tax reaching AED 6.4 billion, representing a six per cent increase year-on-year. This sustained performance speaks to the underlying strength of the Bank’s franchise and the confidence of its customers in its strategic direction.

The growth trajectory reflects diversified revenue streams and healthy asset quality across the organisation. Net profit after tax for the period stood at AED 5.6 billion, also up six per cent compared to the corresponding nine months in 2025, while revenue climbed to AED 9.7 billion, driven by strong momentum across the Bank’s core businesses. The institution generated a return on equity of 28 per cent, demonstrating industry-leading profitability and efficient capital deployment.

Customer acquisition has accelerated considerably, with the Bank adding more than 200,000 new customers during the nine-month period, reflecting the breadth of its appeal across both retail and wholesale banking segments. This expansion has supported continued balance sheet growth, with total assets increasing 18 per cent year-on-year to AED 318 billion. Gross customer financing has grown particularly strongly, increasing 25 per cent year-on-year and adding AED 43 billion over the past 12 months, with growth remaining well ahead of the Bank’s full-year guidance and evident across both retail and wholesale channels.

The deposit base has also expanded meaningfully, with customer deposits rising 17 per cent year-on-year to AED 259 billion. The composition of this funding is particularly noteworthy, with current and savings accounts comprising 60 per cent of total deposits, one of the highest ratios in the sector. This concentration reflects strong customer confidence and provides a stable foundation for the Bank’s continued expansion. Asset quality has continued to strengthen, with further improvement evident across key credit quality and coverage metrics.

Jawaan Awaidah Al Khaili, Chairman of ADIB, observed that the Bank’s continued growth reflects the strength of its franchise and the trust of its customers, with strong financing momentum, an expanding customer base and robust asset quality positioning the institution well for the next phase of growth under Vision 2035. Mohamed Abdelbary, Group Chief Executive Officer, noted that the broad-based performance reflects strong profitability, continued customer and financing growth, and robust asset quality. He emphasised that with the strength of the franchise and a healthy pipeline across retail and wholesale banking, the Bank is well positioned to sustain this momentum.

Earlier this month, ADIB’s shareholders approved a AED1.75 billion rights issue to strengthen capital and support the Bank’s expansion strategy under Vision 2035, further demonstrating the institution’s commitment to sustainable growth and its capacity to invest in future opportunities. The Bank has also been expanding its physical presence, as evidenced by the opening of its innovative Al Mutarid Branch in Al Ain, which combines digital self-service capabilities with personalised customer support.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

ADIB’s sustained financial performance reflects the health and dynamism of Abu Dhabi’s banking sector and the broader economy. The institution’s ability to grow customer financing by 25 per cent year-on-year while maintaining strong asset quality demonstrates the availability of credit to support economic activity and expansion across the emirate’s diverse business landscape. The Bank’s addition of more than 200,000 new customers during the nine-month period underscores its reach and relevance to Abu Dhabi’s growing population and workforce.

The Bank’s robust profitability and efficient capital deployment position it well to support the emirate’s economic diversification and development priorities under Vision 2035. With a healthy deposit base and strong funding stability, ADIB has the resources to finance the infrastructure, real estate, and business expansion initiatives that will shape Abu Dhabi’s economic landscape in the years ahead.
