A three-year collaboration between the property developer and the cultural institution aims to embed knowledge exchange, intellectual development and social responsibility across workplaces, families and schools throughout the UAE.
Culture and knowledge, when woven thoughtfully into the fabric of daily life, possess a quiet power to transform not only individuals but entire communities. This principle lies at the heart of a new partnership between Aldar and the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions, a three-year collaboration signed recently at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Palace in Al Bateen.
The agreement, signed by Mariam Hamad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions, and Salwa Al Maflahi, Executive Director of Sustainability and Community Outreach of Aldar, represents far more than a formal arrangement between two organisations. Rather, it reflects a shared commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for people to engage with culture, develop knowledge, and strengthen their connection to Emirati identity across the UAE.
Sheikha Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Chairperson of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions, articulated the philosophy underpinning the partnership: true collaboration emerges not from signatures alone, but from aligned values and a common vision for human empowerment. The ambition extends beyond adding programmes to calendars. Instead, the partnership seeks to create pathways for talent to flourish, ideas to grow, employees to find spaces for intellectual dialogue within their workplaces, and families to access knowledge that enriches their lives.
A cornerstone initiative will see the establishment of a Reading and Cultural Dialogue Council for Aldar employees, operating under the Shamma Mohammed Council for Thought and Knowledge. This council will foster regular dialogue, encourage reading, and provide platforms for knowledge exchange and intellectual development. In tandem, the Roya Academy will deliver professional, personal, and social skills training tailored to identified employee needs, whilst family awareness and education programmes will extend engagement to the households of Aldar’s workforce.
The partnership recognises and celebrates distinctive talent within Aldar’s workforce, creating opportunities for employees to participate in cultural and social initiatives whilst receiving recognition and support for their empowerment. Meanwhile, the Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Association for Future Generations will deliver programmes within Aldar’s educational institutions, extending the reach of the collaboration into school communities and enabling young people to contribute ideas and shape initiatives.
The scope extends further still. Through Aldar Estates, initiatives will reach third-party communities and clients, creating connections between developers, asset owners and community stakeholders throughout the emirate. Local entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises will find opportunities to participate in community initiatives, supporting their growth and contribution to the local economy.
Sustainability forms another area of collaboration, with awareness initiatives encouraging residents and tenants to engage actively in water conservation, energy efficiency, responsible consumption and waste reduction. These efforts align with broader ambitions articulated through the UAE’s Year of Family and the Centennial 2071 vision.
Bayan Al Hosani, Chief People and Communications Officer of Aldar, noted that the partnership reflects the company’s view of culture and knowledge as foundations of the communities it builds, whilst strengthening connections to Emirati culture and national identity across the UAE.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
This partnership embodies a contemporary understanding of institutional responsibility: that the strength of organisations lies not only in what they achieve independently, but in their capacity to create greater impact through collaboration. For Abu Dhabi, the initiative demonstrates how leading private sector entities can align their operations and communities with cultural and educational institutions, amplifying the reach and significance of both.
The programme’s emphasis on embedding knowledge, dialogue and cultural engagement into everyday working and family life speaks to a deeper investment in human development. By creating spaces for intellectual exchange, recognising talent, and extending cultural participation across workplaces, schools and residential communities, the partnership contributes to the social cohesion and personal enrichment that underpin sustainable growth and national identity across the emirate.
