The city's celebrated marketplace expands its reach with a 24 percent increase in Emirati farmer participation and introduces opportunities for young entrepreneurs to develop their agricultural skills.
The rhythms of the seasons bring with them the promise of renewal, and for Dubai’s agricultural community, the sixth edition of the Farmers’ Market represents another chapter in the city’s commitment to supporting local producers and deepening the connection between growers and consumers. Dubai Municipality has now opened registration for the forthcoming season, which will unfold across thirteen weekends from November through January at Quranic Park in Al Khawaneej.
The market has become more than a place of transaction; it functions as a vital platform where Emirati farmers and local businesses encounter their customers face to face, sharing not merely their harvests but their knowledge and expertise. This season brings a notable expansion in participation, with 52 Emirati farmers and local businesses registered to take part, a growth of approximately 24 percent compared with the previous year’s offerings. The earlier season drew 393,467 visitors, and the marketplace has evidently struck a chord with those seeking to understand where their food originates and to support the development of a thriving local agricultural sector.
Among the most significant developments for this year is the introduction of the “Young Farmers and Entrepreneurs” initiative, which dedicates ten spaces specifically for children. This programme allows young participants to display and sell their own products whilst acquiring practical experience in both cultivation and business management. It represents an investment in the future of the sector, seeding knowledge and confidence in the generation that will eventually steward the UAE’s agricultural heritage.
Mohammed Abdulrahman Ahli, Director of the Public Parks and Recreational Facilities Department at Dubai Municipality, spoke of the market’s evolving role: the initiative has established itself as a platform of genuine community significance, and the new season builds upon that foundation by expanding pathways for participation. Dubai Municipality provides participating farmers with comprehensive support, including dedicated market stalls, logistical assistance, agricultural supplies, and a programme of training courses and technical consultations. This infrastructure allows growers to refine their practices and enhance production efficiency, fundamental steps in strengthening the competitiveness of locally grown produce.
Beyond commerce, the marketplace will feature recreational and educational activities for families and visitors, creating spaces where the principles of sustainable local agriculture can be explored and understood. The initiative aligns with Dubai Municipality’s broader commitment to circular economy principles and sustainable resource management, reflecting a comprehensive vision of agricultural development that honours both tradition and environmental stewardship.
Emirati farmers, eligible home-based agricultural businesses and vendors of local agricultural products may register through the Dubai Municipality registration portal. The selection process evaluates participants against established criteria that prioritise quality standards and sustainable local production methods.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
The expansion of Dubai’s Farmers’ Market demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to strengthening local agricultural sectors and supporting Emirati entrepreneurs across the federation. The introduction of youth participation opportunities sends a powerful signal about the future of farming in the emirates, cultivating both literal and figurative growth within the agricultural community and reinforcing the value of preserving local food production capabilities.
As the emirates collectively advance their food sustainability objectives, initiatives such as this serve broader regional purposes. They illustrate how municipal authorities throughout the UAE are weaving together community engagement, economic development and environmental responsibility into integrated systems that benefit citizens and nourish the landscape.
