The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry reinforces its role as bridge between business and government, championing sustainable growth across the emirate's thriving travel sector
The thirteenth edition of the Sharjah International Travel and Tourism Forum gathered the region’s most considered minds to contemplate the future of travel. Held at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre under the theme “New Waves of Tourism Spectrum”, the gathering brought together government officials, industry visionaries and specialists to explore how innovation and strategic partnership might reshape the tourism landscape.
At the heart of the forum, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry positioned itself as essential intermediary between the private sector and government institutions. Through its Sectoral Business Groups, the Chamber showcased the mechanisms by which it strengthens the business community: identifying the needs of companies, opening dialogue channels, and facilitating the kinds of cross-sector partnerships that drive meaningful economic activity.
Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI, articulated the Chamber’s conviction that tourism stands as a vital pillar of economic development. He emphasised that advancing the sector demands coordinated effort among stakeholders and private institutions alike, underpinned by partnerships that foster innovation, sustainability and enhanced competitiveness.
The Chamber’s pavilion demonstrated this philosophy in tangible form, with representatives engaging in substantive business meetings to discuss industry trends, emerging practices and opportunities for innovation within tourism and travel. These conversations ranged across the full value chain, exploring how businesses might expand their economic activities and unlock new potential.
Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI, participated in a panel discussion titled “Building Resilient Tourist Destinations”. The conversation examined how destinations might adapt to evolving market conditions, strengthen their sustainability frameworks, and leverage strategic partnership to enhance preparedness for the future. Al Shamsi outlined the Chamber’s multifaceted approach: forging partnerships with key stakeholders, enhancing the effectiveness of its Sectoral Business Groups, and creating networking platforms where expertise and opportunity circulate freely among companies and institutions.
The Chamber’s recognition at the forum’s conclusion acknowledged its strategic partnership and the value of its contribution to the event’s success. In doing so, it underscored the vital role that organised private-sector engagement plays in shaping the future of tourism across the region.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
The Sharjah Chamber’s evolution as facilitator of public-private dialogue offers a model of institutional strength that resonates across the emirates. As the UAE’s chambers network continues to expand its international reach, the capacity to connect businesses with opportunity remains foundational to broader economic growth.
Tourism’s emergence as a cornerstone of sustainable economic development reflects a sophisticated understanding of how diverse sectors interconnect. The Chamber’s work in building partnerships and facilitating knowledge exchange demonstrates how institutional infrastructure, when thoughtfully constructed, enables the kind of innovation and resilience that tourism destinations require to thrive in an evolving global marketplace.
