Sheikh Hamdan Elevates Dubai's AI Ambitions with Bold New Campus Targets

At the Dubai AI Festival, the Crown Prince approved ambitious new goals for the emirate's emerging artificial intelligence hub, setting the stage for exponential growth in both companies and specialised talent over the coming years.

The third edition of the Dubai AI Festival unfolded this week at the Dubai World Trade Centre as a gathering of genuine consequence. More than 20,000 attendees from over 100 countries convened to explore the next phase of artificial intelligence adoption, their discussions ranging across global governance, innovation ethics, the future of work and the infrastructure needed to translate AI promise into economic reality.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, attended the festival’s opening to signal the emirate’s unwavering commitment to positioning itself at the forefront of artificial intelligence development. Speaking to the assembled policymakers, technology leaders and entrepreneurs, Sheikh Hamdan articulated a vision of Dubai as a place where advanced technologies generate new opportunities for economic growth. Artificial intelligence, he noted, has become one of the world’s most significant drivers of technological and economic progress, offering immense possibilities to transform businesses and develop innovative solutions.

The Crown Prince’s remarks reflected a deeper strategy: providing state-of-the-art infrastructure, a flexible regulatory environment and access to the world’s best talent and expertise, enabling companies and innovators to develop AI technologies and translate their potential into sustainable economic value. The Dubai International Financial Centre, he emphasised, plays a vital role in realising this vision by bringing together technology companies, innovators, investors and global institutions within an integrated ecosystem.

That ecosystem has already exceeded expectations. Since its launch in May 2024, the Dubai AI Campus, part of the DIFC, has attracted more than 500 AI companies that have collectively secured over AED1 billion in investment from private equity and venture capital funds. The campus has contributed to the creation of more than 2,000 specialised technology jobs. Remarkably, these achievements were reached two years ahead of the original five-year target.

Sheikh Hamdan commended the DIFC’s progress and approved new strategic targets reflecting the momentum already achieved. By 2030, Dubai AI Campus aims to attract more than 1,000 AI companies and create over 5,000 highly skilled jobs, further establishing itself as a global destination for specialised talent in the sector.

Central to this ambition is a landmark architectural project. The new Dubai AI Campus building, located within the DIFC Zabeel District expansion, will become the world’s first purpose-built facility of its kind. Spanning 100,000 square feet, it will serve as a central hub for AI development and innovation. Its advanced infrastructure will include GPU-ready systems, secure AI development zones, digital twin environments and AI-powered building systems. Modular, lab-ready floors will house AI Labs where government entities and private sector organisations can develop, pilot and validate AI solutions before wider deployment. An AI Experience Centre will showcase the latest developments across various sectors, open to residents, students, visitors, delegations and investors.

During his tour of the exhibition, Sheikh Hamdan visited stands representing leading local and international organisations. He was briefed on the integration of artificial intelligence into medical education and clinical diagnostic training at Dubai Medical University, and explored the work of companies developing AI-powered solutions for audio, image and video creation, cloud computing platforms, advanced data analytics and high-precision robotic technologies.

Essa Kazim, Governor of DIFC, remarked that artificial intelligence represents the next defining chapter in Dubai’s long-pursued vision of becoming a global hub for technology and innovation. The continued growth of Dubai AI Campus and the development of its purpose-built facility will further strengthen the emirate’s position as a global leader in AI and the technology economy.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

Dubai’s acceleration of artificial intelligence infrastructure and talent development carries implications for the broader UAE. As neighbouring emirates observe the scale of investment and the competitive advantages emerging from Dubai’s focused AI strategy, questions arise about how the national ecosystem will evolve to harness these capabilities across sectors and emirates. The creation of over 5,000 highly skilled jobs within Dubai’s AI sector by 2030 reflects a significant shift in how the UAE’s economy will generate value and employment.

The emirate’s commitment to building the world’s first purpose-built AI campus facility also signals a maturation of how the UAE approaches technology innovation beyond traditional development models. The integration of government entities, private companies, investors and academic institutions within a single collaborative environment suggests a template that could influence how other sectors and emirates structure their innovation strategies in coming years.
