Two landmark projects in Abu Dhabi's strategic chemicals zone have closed oversubscribed financing rounds, reflecting robust international confidence in the emirate's industrial future
The industrial heartland of Ruwais took another significant step forward this November when TA’ZIZ, the catalyst behind Abu Dhabi’s chemical and industrial transformation, secured AED5.10 billion in financing for two cornerstone projects. The oversubscribed closings, revealed at ADIPEC 2026, signal the depth of international investor belief in both the company’s vision and the UAE’s broader commitment to economic diversification through industrial development.
The TA’ZIZ Terminal project, developed as a joint venture between ADNOC and Advario Star Energy, will serve as the primary logistics gateway for the TA’ZIZ Industrial Chemicals Zone, providing storage and export capabilities for liquid chemicals bound for regional and international markets. This facility has drawn more than AED3.41 billion in financing, including AED826 million in Islamic funding structures, demonstrating the project’s appeal across diverse capital sources.
Complementing this infrastructure is the TA’ZIZ Ammonia project, a collaboration between TA’ZIZ, Fertiglobe, Mitsui and GS Energy Corporation. The facility will produce one million tonnes of ammonia annually, positioning itself among the region’s largest such operations. The project has attracted over AED1.69 billion in financing commitments, underscoring market confidence in its strategic importance.
These closings form part of a broader investment surge in TA’ZIZ’s portfolio. As we reported in our coverage of the UAE’s dialogue with the IMF on economic resilience, the nation continues to attract significant capital flows through projects of strategic substance. The AED5.1 billion now secured follows the AED7.34 billion financing that TA’ZIZ arranged for its methanol project in April, bringing total portfolio financing to more than AED12.44 billion.
Mashal Saoud Al-Kindi, TA’ZIZ Chief Executive and Chairman of both projects, emphasised the significance of the moment. The financing demonstrates, he said, the confidence that international investors and lenders place in TA’ZIZ’s partners and Abu Dhabi’s long-term industrial vision. Both the terminal and ammonia facilities will be instrumental in building a globally competitive chemicals and industrial ecosystem while supporting the UAE’s economic diversification objectives.
The engineering, procurement and construction work on both projects continues to advance. The ammonia facility’s EPC contract, awarded to Tecnimont, is more than 90 per cent complete, whilst the terminal’s EPC works, managed by Rotary Engineering, stand at approximately 70 per cent completion. These construction milestones signal the projects’ progression towards full operation.
Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group served as financial advisor on the terminal financing, assembling nine regional and international banks on a long-term non-recourse basis. Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation acted as exclusive financial advisor for the ammonia financing, drawing together seven banks from China, Kuwait, Spain and Singapore for a six-year term facility.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
The financial closings represent a decisive moment in Abu Dhabi’s industrial transformation. By attracting more than AED12 billion across three major projects within a single year, TA’ZIZ has positioned Ruwais as a destination of genuine international significance in chemicals and industrial production. This capital inflow reflects confidence not only in individual projects but in the broader ecosystem that Abu Dhabi has cultivated to support industrial growth.
For Abu Dhabi’s people and economy, these projects will generate employment across construction, engineering and operations, whilst establishing productive capacity that will serve global markets for decades. The diversity of international lenders and partners involved signals that Abu Dhabi has successfully positioned itself as a stable, transparent and attractive jurisdiction for long-term infrastructure investment, strengthening the emirate’s role in the UAE’s economic diversification strategy.
