The Dubai International Content Market Returns for a Ninth Edition of Creative Commerce

Next week, the region's most significant gathering of media and entertainment professionals convenes at Madinat Jumeirah, connecting content creators, broadcasters and platforms from across the globe in pursuit of new storytelling partnerships.

The ninth edition of the Dubai International Content Market opens its doors next week, drawing together the intricate ecosystem of contemporary media production. From Turkish and Korean drama houses to Arabic storytellers, animation studios and international distributors, the event brings more than 200 buyers from over thirty countries alongside eighty participating companies, with two thousand business meetings already scheduled across the programme.

The market has long served as a vital junction where creative ambition meets commercial opportunity. This year, representatives from fifteen countries will gather at Madinat Jumeirah Conference & Events Centre, among them Egypt, Lebanon, the United States, Türkiye, Japan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, India, Germany, China, Russia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia. The participating organisations span the full breadth of the industry: from established broadcasters such as TRT, Kanal D International, KBS Media and MBC Korea to independent producers, platforms and distribution companies seeking to expand their reach across regional and international markets.

Two initiatives structure this year’s programming with particular purpose. Spotlight Stories provides a dedicated platform for original Arabic language projects from the MENA region, offering creators the chance to pitch their scripted work to a panel of industry leaders during a live session on the eleventh. The winning project will receive development support through Writables and a pathway towards production via AFLAM Production. Producers Connect, meanwhile, enables production houses to identify co-production partners and explore joint ventures, with companies including Blue Media, Assada Productions, TelevisaUnivision and Inter Medya actively seeking collaborative opportunities.

The market’s three country pavilions this year represent Türkiye, South Korea and Russia, each offering curated access to distinct creative traditions and business ecosystems. The pavilions feature major organisations from each market: Turkish companies including Calinos Entertainment, OGM Universe and ATV alongside Russian partners Moskino and Roskino, and Korean representatives including the Korea Creative Content Agency, CJ ENM and Studio Gale.

The DICM Talks programme addresses the profound shifts reshaping global content strategy. Sessions including “Content Isn’t King Anymore” and “What Can Cinema and YouTube Learn From Each Other?” will explore evolving audience preferences, changing production methodologies and the emergence of new distribution models. The second discussion features Zeina Merheb alongside Gianluca Chakra from FrontRow Filmed Entertainment, Meryem Raji representing YouTube and Amanda Turnbull from Rise Studios.

The market continues to play a vital role in sustaining Dubai’s position as a regional hub for creative industries, as the emirate strengthens its focus on developing partnerships and infrastructure that support content development and distribution across both regional and international territories. The event reflects the growing demand for original storytelling across platforms, and the market’s particular commitment to supporting Arabic language production underscores the regional imperative to nurture homegrown talent and creative voices.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

The Dubai International Content Market represents a significant convening of creative commerce that extends far beyond Dubai itself. As the UAE’s media and entertainment sector continues to mature, events of this calibre strengthen the commercial infrastructure upon which regional production companies depend. The platform enables UAE based producers and platforms to forge international partnerships, secure distribution agreements and access co-production opportunities that would otherwise remain distant.

The market’s particular emphasis on Arabic language storytelling through initiatives like Spotlight Stories directly serves Abu Dhabi’s broader cultural and economic objectives. By creating pathways for MENA region creators to connect with producers, broadcasters and funding sources, the market supports the development of original content that reflects Emirati and regional narratives. This infrastructure for creative commerce strengthens the UAE’s cultural voice internationally whilst providing local talent with viable pathways to production and distribution.
