The Future of Food Manufacturing Convenes in Dubai as Global Leaders Shape Regional Industry

Gulfood Manufacturing 2026 opens its doors to an unprecedented gathering of international expertise, bringing together 2,500 exhibitors from 79 countries to explore manufacturing innovation and strengthen food security across the region.

The grand exhibition halls of Dubai filled with purposeful energy as H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, formally inaugurated Gulfood Manufacturing 2026. The moment carried the weight of industrial consequence: across 21 halls, a converging ecosystem of multinational manufacturers, technology innovators and ingredient specialists had assembled to reshape how the region produces, processes and secures its food supply.

Running through 5 November under the theme ‘Powering Food Security Through Manufacturing Innovation’, this 12th edition represents something more ambitious than a traditional trade show. It reflects a deliberate strategic realignment, one in which food sovereignty, domestic production capability and supply chain resilience have become central to national industrial strategy. The presence of exhibitors from 79 countries, including five newcomers to the platform, signals the magnitude of the conversation taking place: Argentina, Mauritania, the Philippines, San Marino and Slovakia join returning participants from across Europe, Asia and beyond.

The technological innovations on display speak to an industry in profound transition. Bunge, a global leader in edible oils and specialty fats, showcased innovations addressing both economic and environmental imperatives. Its CBT Gold offers manufacturers a cost-effective alternative to real chocolate, reducing costs by up to 70 per cent across bar, coating and panning applications. FlexiBetter, meanwhile, replicates butter’s sensory and processing properties while reducing CO₂ emissions by 82 per cent compared with dairy butter. These are not incremental improvements but fundamental reimaginings of how food is made.

Equally compelling were advances in manufacturing precision and sustainability. Ishida Middle East presented the QX-500, a next-generation tray sealer with a 46 per cent smaller footprint and 50 per cent lower energy consumption than its predecessors, while supporting a range of sustainable packaging materials. SACMI demonstrated high-speed beverage manufacturing technology producing up to 240,000 caps per hour, with lower processing temperatures reducing energy consumption and material waste. The through-line is clear: efficiency and sustainability have become inseparable from competitiveness.

The intellectual substance of Gulfood Manufacturing extended well beyond the exhibition floor. A Global Leaders Series roundtable, ‘The Food Sovereignty Agenda: Capital and the Intelligent Factory’, brought together three influential international voices: Paul Polman, former Chief Executive of Unilever; John Elkington, Executive Chairman of Volans and creator of the triple bottom line concept; and Ken Goldberg, pioneering expert in robotics and artificial intelligence from UC Berkeley. Their discussion examined purpose-led business models, long-term investment and advanced technologies as mechanisms for restructuring conventional food manufacturing, addressing the fundamental question: how can the Gulf lead the next phase of industrial transformation.

The FoodTech Summit complemented this global perspective with regional implementation strategy. Policymakers and business leaders examined the practical priorities shaping regional food production, with particular emphasis on localising the UAE’s food supply chain. Insights from H.E. Khalifa Al Hajeri, Chief Executive of Emirates Growth Fund, alongside leading industry voices including Dr. Arif Kalantar of ADAFSA and representatives from Tetra Pak, Flora Food Group and Orkla, underscored the commitment to building domestic production capabilities. The summit also addressed the impact of regional disruptions on cross-border logistics, highlighting the importance of diversified sourcing and infrastructure investment.

This convergence of food manufacturing, confectionery and snacks, foodservice equipment and solutions, and private label retailers across four complementary exhibitions creates an unusually comprehensive platform. As we reported in our earlier coverage, four specialised food exhibitions have converged on Dubai with 2,500 global exhibitors, reflecting the breadth of products, technologies and solutions driving the wider food, retail and hospitality sectors forward.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

Gulfood Manufacturing 2026 represents a pivotal moment for Abu Dhabi’s food security and economic diversification strategy. The exhibition underscores the Emirate’s commitment to building domestic production capabilities and reducing dependency on imported goods, a cornerstone of long-term national resilience. With such concentrated expertise and innovation now present in the region, Abu Dhabi’s businesses and policymakers have unprecedented access to the technologies, partnerships and strategic insights necessary to accelerate local manufacturing capacity across the food and beverage sector.

Beyond immediate commercial opportunity, the exhibition signals Abu Dhabi’s position as a convening force for global industrial transformation. By hosting conversations between international leaders and regional policymakers, the Emirate positions itself not merely as a market, but as a thought leader in restructuring food manufacturing around purpose, sustainability and intelligent technology. This positioning strengthens Abu Dhabi’s broader economic vision while creating tangible pathways for local enterprises to participate in a fundamentally transformed global food system.
