UAE and Senegal presidents meet in Abu Dhabi to deepen cooperation

Presidents discuss investment, development and water ahead of 2026 UN conference
Abu Dhabi hosted a bilateral meeting on 17 September in which UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received the President of the Republic of Senegal, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who is on a working visit to the UAE. The leaders reviewed avenues to deepen cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.
Discussions focused on expanding ties in investment, economic cooperation and development, reflecting both countries’ shared ambitions for sustainable growth. The two presidents also addressed a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Significant attention was given to the 2026 UN Water Conference, which the UAE and Senegal will co‑host later this year. The presidents underlined a common vision on water and related priorities, stressing the conference’s importance for development in their countries and for global water security.
The meeting reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to strengthening partnerships across the African continent, with Senegal cited as a key partner in advancing effective development programmes aimed at supporting progress and prosperity.
The delegation accompanying the UAE President included His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region; H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence; and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President, together with a number of sheikhs, ministers and officials.
The meeting in Abu Dhabi follows continued engagement between the two nations and sets a framework for increased collaboration on economic and development initiatives, as well as coordinated action on water security through the forthcoming UN conference.
