University of Sharjah Advances to Elite Global Tier in Times Higher Education Rankings

The institution secures fifth position worldwide for international outlook and third nationally in the latest THE World University Rankings, underscoring its commitment to academic excellence and global collaboration.

The University of Sharjah has reinforced its standing among the world’s most distinguished academic institutions, achieving placement within the 301–325 band globally in the 2027 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The advancement reflects sustained investment in research excellence and international engagement across the institution’s academic community.

In the latest edition, the university demonstrated particular distinction in two key performance metrics. It ranked fifth worldwide on the international outlook indicator—a measure that evaluates an institution’s capacity to attract international students and faculty whilst fostering research collaborations with global academic partners. Concurrently, it secured 54th position globally for research quality, a measure reflecting the real-world impact and citation frequency of scholarly work within the international scientific community.

Nationally, the University of Sharjah achieved third place among United Arab Emirates universities, whilst leading all Emirati institutions on the research quality indicator—a distinction that underscores its research performance within the regional higher education landscape.

Professor Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, characterised the results as validation of the institution’s foundational commitment to diversity and scholarly rigour. “When our University becomes one of only five in the world to lead the international outlook indicator, it means that diversity on our campus has become part of our academic identity,” he observed. “Our students learn alongside peers from a wide range of cultures and graduate better equipped to work and innovate in any professional environment.”

Professor Agamy identified the research quality ranking as an impetus for accelerated advancement. He advocated for enhanced investment in research infrastructure, laboratory facilities and strategic international partnerships, with particular emphasis upon investigations addressing pressing societal challenges and generating measurable impact beyond conventional academic publication.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings employ a rigorous methodology assessing research-intensive universities across five foundational pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook and Industry. The 2027 assessment integrates eighteen distinct performance indicators distributed across these domains to determine comprehensive global standings.
