Sharjah Executive Council Advances Worker Safety and Service Excellence Standards

The Sharjah Executive Council has issued a landmark decision establishing comprehensive occupational safety protocols whilst advancing ambitious service improvements across government entities.

The Sharjah Executive Council, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a significant decision regarding the Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health System during its weekly meeting on Tuesday at the Ruler’s Office.

The decision, which applies to government entities, private establishments, employers and workers across the Emirate, represents a comprehensive approach to workplace protection. It establishes preventive and regulatory measures designed to safeguard workers’ safety and health both at their workplaces and accommodation facilities, whilst protecting organisational assets and reducing accident rates.

The initiative addresses multiple strategic objectives. Beyond immediate workplace protection, it seeks to elevate awareness regarding occupational health and safety risks and strengthen economic competitiveness by creating environments that attract investment and talent. The decision delineates Sharjah Police’s implementation powers, specifies employer and employee responsibilities, defines violations and establishes corresponding administrative penalties alongside additional legal provisions.

The Council also approved the agenda for the second phase of its comprehensive service improvements initiative. Aligned with the Sharjah Customer Experience Improvement Program, this phase operates under the vision of achieving “an integrated, human-centric customer experience.”

The service improvement programme spans critical sectors including health economics, social affairs, justice, security and safety, infrastructure and transport, and housing. Priority areas focus on services with strategic and operational significance that enhance government efficiency and serve vulnerable population groups.

The scope of this transformation is remarkable. Design and development workshops conducted between 2023 and 2026 have generated new services and streamlined “life journeys” whilst eliminating more than 315 workdays, over 155 document requirements and approximately 295 touchpoints. These achievements reflect intensive collaborative effort involving 65 government service designers, more than 800 employees from 25 government entities, and more than 135 customers who participated in shaping these improvements.

The dual focus on workplace safety and service excellence demonstrates Sharjah’s commitment to comprehensive governance that prioritises both employee welfare and citizen experience, positioning the Emirate as a progressive destination for business and talent.
