GCC Secretary-General Emphasises Private Sector’s Pivotal Role in Regional Economic Integration

Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi underscores the strategic importance of government-business dialogue at the 15th Consultative Meeting of Commerce Ministers and Chamber Leaders, held in Manama.
The 15th Consultative Meeting between the Ministers of Commerce and Heads of the Federations of GCC Chambers convened in Manama on Wednesday, bringing together senior policymakers and private sector representatives across the Gulf region in a landmark gathering of economic leadership.
Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, characterised the forum as a strategic platform of singular importance, facilitating high-level dialogue between government officials and the business community. The meeting, chaired by Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce in the Kingdom of Bahrain and Chairman of the current session, represents the most elevated form of engagement between public and private sector stakeholders within the GCC framework.
Speaking to the assembled delegates, Mr Albudaiwi emphasised the fundamental role of the private sector in realising the national development objectives of GCC member states and advancing the collective interests of the Gulf region. He identified the meeting’s central purpose as twofold: to identify the economic challenges confronting Gulf businesses and to formulate evidence-based solutions that align with the strategic directives established by GCC leadership.
The Secretary-General highlighted that the dialogue serves to strengthen the private sector’s contribution to economic integration throughout the member states, whilst consolidating the Council’s position as a leading force in global finance, investment and commerce. He stressed that supporting business growth across the region remains essential to achieving broader goals of economic stability and sustainable development.
Mr Albudaiwi concluded his remarks by expressing confidence that the consultative meeting would yield meaningful initiatives designed to catalyse private sector expansion throughout GCC member states. Such outcomes, he suggested, would enhance the region’s standing as a significant economic hub whilst contributing substantively to the prosperity and resilience of the Gulf economy.
